MEC Vuyiswa Ramokgopa launches Vul’Amathuba campaign, a one-stop platform for economic and employment opportunities
The Gauteng Provincial Government, working in partnership with the private sector, academic institutions and other spheres of government, has mobilised 9,302 permanent jobs, learnerships and internships across various sectors of the Gauteng economy.
The opportunities span sectors such as hospitality, transport and logistics, mobility, e-commerce and retail, manufacturing and industrial development, among others.
These opportunities will be accessible through Vul’Amathuba, an initiative launched today by Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa at Constitution Hill, Johannesburg. The opportunities, together with additional opportunities secured in future, will be hosted on a dedicated online platform that connects opportunity seekers with participating organisations.
Meaning “open up opportunities”, Vul’Amathuba brings together opportunity providers and opportunity seekers within a single, accessible ecosystem. The initiative responds to a persistent challenge facing many residents: information about jobs, workplace experience, skills programmes, funding, market access and business support is often fragmented and difficult to navigate.
The launch marks the beginning of a long-term programme rather than a once-off event. Through the Vul’Amathuba online platform and future activations, residents will be able to continue exploring opportunities made available by government departments, public entities, businesses, academic institutions, development organisations and other partners.
“Opportunity should not depend on who you know, where you live or whether you understand complex government systems. Vul’Amathuba is about opening doors,
bringing opportunities closer to people and creating clearer pathways to employment, skills development, enterprise support and market access,” said MEC Ramokgopa.
Private-sector participants and partners include Uber and Uber Eats, Samsung, Microsoft South Africa, Afrika Tikkun, McDonald’s and Tiger Brands.
The initiative is deliberately inclusive and is not limited to young people. It is intended to benefit unemployed residents, graduates, work-seekers, entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises, informal traders, cooperatives, artisans, farmers and others seeking meaningful participation in Gauteng’s economy.
Vul’Amathuba showcases a broad range of opportunities, including permanent employment, internships, learnerships, graduate programmes, skills development initiatives, enterprise funding, supplier development and market-access opportunities, digital and innovation programmes, financial literacy support and access to selected government services.
The programme also provides participating organisations with a platform to showcase their offerings, explain eligibility requirements and guide residents on how to access the available opportunities. This practical approach is intended to move participants beyond receiving general information towards pursuing tangible opportunities.

Various Chinese companies were also represented at the launch. Yujiang Zhou, Acting Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, lauded the initiative as an important platform for connecting people with opportunities: “We are pleased to introduce Chinese companies such as BUFFALO International Logistics, which operates in logistics, e-commerce and delivery services and creates opportunities across the value chain. The presence of these companies demonstrates how investment and stronger China–South Africa partnerships can contribute to job creation, skills development and business opportunities for the people of Gauteng. We look forward to strengthening this cooperation and creating even more opportunities together.”
MEC Ramokgopa called on the private sector, public institutions, universities, development partners and civil society organisations to support Vul’Amathuba by contributing credible opportunities and helping to expand the initiative’s reach.
“Government cannot address unemployment, economic exclusion and limited market access on its own. We need a broad partnership that translates commitments into tangible opportunities and connects people to them in a transparent and practical manner,” MEC Ramokgopa added.
The Gauteng Provincial Government will continue to strengthen the platform, mobilise additional partners and expand the range of opportunities available beyond the launch. Residents who are unable to attend physical activations will still be able to access available opportunities and receive updates through the online platform.
Vul’Amathuba supports Gauteng’s broader efforts to accelerate inclusive economic growth, expand participation in the provincial economy and ensure that public and private investment and development initiatives translate into sustainable livelihoods for residents.
